Backyard Pool in Bynum, NC
With many years of experience in the pool building industry, it’s not often that we at Blue Haven Raleigh come across a project that’s that outside the box. The Protzman project, however, presented some unique challenges we enjoyed figuring out. This project was different for two reasons, one being that it was quite the collaboration. The project owner, Alys Protzman, and Trent Lloyd came up with the design concept. The Blue Haven Raleigh team executed the pool and decking, and Buildsense of Durham handled the building plans and execution. The second reason this project was a little outside the norm was that the Protzman property already had a pool, meaning we had to begin with demo. Located in Bynum, NC, she wanted a sleek, stylish backyard pool, and the old “Master Pool by Meredith” wasn’t up to standards. The pool was the last thing to be renovated on the estate, so we got to work quickly, hoping to finish the last piece of the puzzle flawlessly.
We first demolished and removed 2,000 square feet of old concrete decking, along with a rotten structure and trellis beside the pool and an aged pool equipment pump house. The only thing left was the original concrete pool structure, and we left the “Master Pool” name plaque as an homage on the top step. We then installed a new piping system and Hayward filtration system to modernize the pool’s safety and efficiency, and we added a heater/chiller unit to maintain the pool’s temperature. Then we brought in the aesthetic aspect, using Peacock pavers and coping, Wet Edge Bermuda quartz pool plaster finish, and new Hayward low voltage color LED lighting. This project really turned out beautifully, and we’re sure the owner and guests will enjoy this backyard pool’s look and performance for a long time.
